This Sunday, we begin a new Fall series on the Providence of God. Allistair Begg once said, “The providence of God is the foundation of all our security; it is this which gives us comfort in the face of difficulty.” We all want security and comfort when faced with trying times. It’s often the worst of tragedies that tempt us to distrust God’s goodness and control. We wrestle with chaos, chance, and Satan himself having the upper hand of true control. But throughout this series, and starting this week, we will see that God is still in control and intimately involved in the nitty-gritty details of all human pain. His providence is personal. This Sunday we continue our new Fall series on God’s Providence. We defined God’s providence last week as His pervasive and purposeful sovereignty. This basically means that God is powerfully working in every situation to bring about His wise, good, and perfect plans. Wow! There is so much relief that comes from learning to trust God’s providence in hard situations.
This Sunday we will examine God’s primary purpose for everything He does: His own glory. The beautiful truth is that God’s glory and our good are not at odds! They mutually work together! Come join us on Sunday to find out how you can live for God’s glory and also experience your greatest good!

God's Providence over Nature

As we continue our series on the Providence of God, we turn to God’s Providence Over Nature. When we look at the world around us, we are more prone to see the workings of science than the workings of a great God. This is how our culture has trained us. Yet the Bible teaches us to see God’s detailed involvement in the most insignificant things. For instance, Psalm 104:14 says, “He causes the grass to grow.” That’s intriguing and intricate involvement! This Sunday we will see how God’s providence over nature prompts us to respond. Have you given much thought to your own future death? To what degree does a fear of death control the way you live? Few things better inform and encourage us regarding our own mortality than God’s providence over life and death, which will be our theme for this coming Sunday. I wonder how you might live differently if you truly believed you are immortal until God’s mission for you on earth is complete? The Lord's Supper
Preparing For Sunday:
For the next two weeks, we will consider the two ordinances Christ left us to follow: the Lord’s Supper and baptism. This week we will consider the Gospel-rich beauty of the Lord’s Supper (i.e. Communion). Why is it important that Jesus told us to remember His death, and to do so specifically with Communion? What are we supposed to gain from this experience? How do we prepare our hearts to receive it? In an age when it’s so easy to overlook this essential practice, join us this Sunday to regain an appreciation for this act and an even greater awe of what it symbolizes!

Baptism

This Sunday, we will continue our two-part study on the ordinances of the church. Last week we looked at the Lord’s Supper, and this week we will look at baptism. What makes baptism such a beautiful picture of the Gospel? Why does Christ command it? Does it play a part in my salvation? Come this Sunday to find answers to these questions and more. Opposition & Opportunities
Philippians 1:12-18
Preparing for Sunday:
This Sunday, we jump back into our verse-by-verse study of the book of Philippians. We will look more closely at chapter 1:12-18. We will wrestle with the purpose of opposition and how that purpose changes our response to opposition. It’s hard for us to see or simply believe God has a greater plan for our lives. What often appears to us to be a mess of knots is just the back view of the tapestry God is weaving. Our challenge is letting go of our plans for our glory so God can execute His bigger plan for His glory. This Sunday, we will see how the Apostle Paul responded to the opposition in his life. What we will find is that in every form of opposition, there is an opportunity for the Gospel. I hope to see you this Sunday!

Living On Earth; Longing For Heaven

Walk Worthy
Philippians 1:27-30
Preparing for Sunday:
Following this, we will continue our series in Philippians 1:27-30. Hey, we’ve made it through the first chapter! Our focus will be on the issue of hypocrisy. In our flesh, we are naturally inclined to pretend we are better than we really are in order to get praise. Sadly, some of us may even have a hidden double life, a particular sin that we’ve allowed to fester in the shadows. This eats at us on the inside while we continue to put up a facade of righteousness on the outside,
The Apostle Paul charges us in v.27 to live our lives in a manner worthy of the Gospel. This entails all of our life falling in line with the Gospel. What we will also see is the One who came to dismantle our hypocrisy and deliver us from its deception. I hope you can join us as we discern our own hypocrisy, small or great, and discover God’s grace to free us!

Humility Like Christ
Philippians 2:1-11

This Sunday, we will look at some of the most famous verses in Scripture: Philippians 2:1-11. Here we see the call to humility through the example of Jesus Christ. None of us are naturally humble. Since the root desire of our fallen flesh is to make ourselves “like god,” our attitude results in prideful independence. We deceive ourselves into believing we are sufficient and successful on our own. Yet the in-breaking of Christ teaches us otherwise. Through the profound suffering and sacrifice of Jesus, we are not only freed from sin but challenged to follow His example. Join us this weekend to consider further how "you might decrease, and He might increase” to the glory and praise of the Father!

Who's At Work Here
Philippians 2:12-13
Preparing for Sunday:
This Sunday, we will look at only two verses: Philippians 2:12-13. These verses are easy to understand but hard to make sense of how they work together. Rather than getting caught up in the minutiae, the essential point is that God is working in our working. The Bible says that apart from Christ, all our righteous deeds are like filthy rags (Is 64:6). In other words, they can have no fruit-producing effect if we aren’t connected to the vine (Jn 15:5). It’s essential that you and I connect ourselves to the goodness of Jesus in order for His good work to be produced in our lives. Come join us on Sunday for this important reminder to remain in Him!

Grumbling Gains Nothing
Philippians 2:14-18
Preparing For Sunday:
This Sunday, we will look at an often-overlooked sin. Jerry Bridges calls it a “respectable sin” — a sin that is often tolerated and given trite treatment. The sin I’m referring to is our proclivity to complain, to grumble, to murmur. This was even an issue in the Philippian church that negatively affected their witness within their lost world (Phil 2:14-18). The same is true of us, probably more than we realize — our negative attitudes often negate the power of our witness to the lost. They also say a lot about our lack of trust in God as our Father. Gospel-Centered Friendship

This Sunday, we will look at the value of having a few good friends. Paul had good friends in Timothy and Epaphroditus. These friends brought him joy, courage, and enhanced ministry. They were with him in his high times and his low times. They understood him well enough to know how to best help him. Do you have friends like that? The Surpassing Worth of Knowing Jesus

This Sunday we come to a crucial section of the book of Philippians. In chapter 3:1-11, Paul unpacks how the purpose of his life changed when Christ converted his soul. Like some of us, Paul had much to boast about in terms of worldly accomplishments, yet the Gospel showed him it was all a wash. His earthly trophies went from significant to worthless and Jesus went from worthless to significant. As a result, the way he viewed his life was significantly altered. In our final Sunday in the book of Philippians, Paul closes out his final appeal in chapter 4:10-23. He addresses our need to trust God’s sufficiency and to grow in our generosity. In many ways, these two are connected: As we become more content in God’s sufficient grace, we grow to trust Him to be more generous to others.
